چکیده

The neutron-to-proton density ratio at the nuclear periphery was determined for six targets from the yield of nuclei with mass (At21) generated by antiproton annihilation on targets with mass number At . A new setup allowed us to measure this yield for nuclei with half-lives down to 6 s. The experiment confirmed the negative correlation between the peripheral neutron-to-proton density ratio and the neutron binding energy, which had been previously found. Results of Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov and relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov calculations show good agreement for a large number of nuclei. By comparing the measured values with those derived from Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations, the ratio R of the imaginary parts of the effective scattering lengths of antiprotons on bound neutrons and protons was deduced to be R50.69(4). For the first time yields of several excited states of some (At21) nuclei have been investigated. @S0556-2813~99!04410-6#

Investigations on Nuclear Spectroscopy at the Reactor and Their Applications

Physical launch of the WWR-M reactor in the branch of Physical-Technical Institute of AS of the USSR in Gatchina took place on the 29th of December in 1959. However the first work on nuclear spectroscopy was carried out before the reactor was launched; namely, gamma-radiation was measured of short-lived isomeric nucleus with lifetime of some tens of minutes produced by irradiation in the reacto...

Neutron density distributions from antiprotonic 208 Pb and 209 Bi atoms

The x-ray cascade from antiprotonic atoms was studied for 208Pb and 209Bi. Widths and shifts of the levels due to the strong interaction were determined. Using modern antiproton-nucleus optical potentials, the neutron densities in the nuclear periphery were deduced. Assuming two-parameter Fermi distributions (2pF) describing the proton and neutron densities, the neutron rms radii were deduced f...

Changes in Nuclear Orientation Patterns of Chromosome 11 during Mouse Plasmacytoma Development1

Studying changes in nuclear architecture is a unique approach toward the understanding of nuclear remodeling during tumor development. One aspect of nuclear architecture is the orientation of chromosomes in the three-dimensional nuclear space. We studied mouse chromosome 11 in lymphocytes of [T38HxBALB/c]N mice with a reciprocal translocation between chromosome X and 11 (T38HT(X;11)) exhibiting...

Absorbed Dose Assessment from Short-Lived Radionuclides of Radon (222Rn) Decay Chain in Lung Tissue: A Monte Carlo Study

Introduction: Internal exposure to radon gas progeny can lead to serious biologic damages to the lung tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the absorbed dose by lung tissue due to the exposure from short-lived radioactive products of radon (222Rn) decay using Monte Carlo simulation. Material and Methods: A lung equivalent p...
